Upgrading Your Personal Style

Upgrading Your Personal Style

Trying to find your personal style can be difficult. There are so many factors that can hinder your ability to express yourself through your clothing and style.

So, Let’s talk about how to realistically incorporate your style in your everyday life!

I will use myself as an example. Fortunately, I have job where I can express myself through the way I dress. I don’t have a uniform or color palette that I have to stick to everyday. So it is a bit easier for me to have the option to dress how I feel (In an appropriate and professional way, of course!) I know that everyone doesn’t that luxury or flexibility. The tips below can help you in or out of the office to begin to explore and upgrade your personal style.

Some realistic ways to upgrade your look are:

Accessories: Funky shoes, cool jewelry, purses, scarves can all give your look a big upgrade without being too over the top.

Color, Color, Color!!! Adding a pop of color, or even just an unexpected color combination can add a lot of interest to your outfit. In a professional environment, colors like Black and gray (as neutrals) can be replaced with Olive green and Navy Blue) You can pair those colors with almost anything just as you would black or gray.

Interesting shoes: Wearing shoes that are outside of the normal silhouette can give you a new way to wear different outfits. Let a shoe serve as the base and build from there. Sometimes a sleek, chic outfit and a good shoe are all you need!

Eyewear: Ever thought about getting new glasses. Just like apparel, eyewear styles change. A new pair of glasses can be very inspirational when it comes to updating your look.

Hats: I love hats that’s a great way to spice it up too!

Some things are cute when you’re shopping but the best way to execute your personal style is to consider your lifestyle. Is is wearable for you personally?

Find what makes you feel comfortable and most like yourself. Pick 4 things you need.

Mine are: comfort, color, texture and patterns. I am an extremely active person. During the course of a day, I can be found sitting on the floor working on a project, running outside with students, at the park, excessively walking around, standing on a chair hanging something up in the classroom and who knows what else. A major part of my personal style is comfort. I don’t usually gravitate towards anything too short, too low, too tight because it doesn’t fit my lifestyle. Mind you this is “everyday” not date nights or special occasions etc. We’ll talk about that soon. Anyhoo, where were we? Oh yea… I have to be able to move freely!

I love color! So anything black, gray, brown or tan usually won’t interest me. I like patterns and interesting fabric textures. So if its colorful and I can move in it. Thats a great place for me to start.

So lets wrap this up.

1) Pick 4 things you need! Eliminate the rest. It saves time.

2) Find a look you like and develop a set of colors that work as neutrals for you!

3) Add new pieces to what you already have with accessories!

4) Make sure you’re comfortable with it!

Hope this was helpful!
