What I really learned in college! : the College girl's survival guide

In addition to my obvious academic encounters, I learned a lot about so much more in college. So,I decided to compile a list of all the useful things I learned to survive in college!
1. ALWAYS get the number of someone in your class during the first week of class! You'll need it when you're in a pickle about upcoming assignments and exams. Missed a day? Confused about the homework? Need help? Text them!
2. Talk to your teachers/Get to know your Professors! They're not monsters - Well, not ALL of them. It helps to keep you accountable if you know they'll notice if you aren't there! They may also bump your grade up at the end of the semester if you're on the edge! (Just sayin')
3. Always carry cash! While we do live in a society where cards are the norm, there are always things happening on campus like bake sales (at my school (Taco Tuesdays) and other fun activities where you'l need cash.
4. Appreciate the value of knowing people from different ethnic backgrounds, majors, religions, cultures, ages and interests. It is such an enriching and truly priceless experience. Learning how to live and thrive in a world where everyone is not like you is such a necessary skill to have. Adaptation and tolerance are two things I learned. Never hide your beliefs but understand that everyone's story is different. Get to know people- you'd be surprised by what you may find! You may cross paths again in life and be able to greatly benefit from knowing someone with information you don't have!
5. Take relationships for what they are. Some people I only talked to once class and never saw them again. Some were cool to eat lunch with after class, some were great for keeping the class itself interesting and some were just better in a certain subject so they helped me! Let friendships/associations build naturally and don't be afraid to let a walk to class buddy be just that! Don't think too hard about it!
6. MANAGE YOUR TIME/ DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! Since nobody is there to wake you up its really important to manage your own time. Class is more enjoyable when assignments are done and material is read ahead of time and not as you're walking to class (Yes, I have done assignments at red lights, stop signs, walking- all of it!)
7. Get involved! there are so many interesting things happening on campus and joining in on the fun is great way to meet people and find what you're interested in.
8. Wear comfortable shoes. While I am all for a great outfit, when it comes to school-comfort is key! Try getting some fly sneakers that are super cute and trendy. It will make the day go by so much more smoothly! I stopped trying to be cute Sophomore year lol!
9. Wear layers! Always bring a jacket or sweatshirt. The temperatures in the classrooms are all different. There's nothing more distracting than being too cold or too hot.
10. Look at RateMyProfessor.com before choosing an instructor during registration. Its the unbiased opinion of former students of the Professor. I learned that the hard way!
My college experience was definitely a roller coaster. Some things I learned through experience others I learned through regret. All in all, I would not trade my years of schooling because the struggles and triumphs made me who I am today! Go Toros Class of 2017!
