Princess Lessons….

When I was younger, I loved Disney movies and of course, Disneyland. It was one of my favorite places to go. Although it was only about a 45 minute freeway ride away, it seemed like when I entered through the gates, I was transported into a world where everything was happy and joyful. Disneyland still makes me feel that today!
One thing I’ve always loved about the princesses in particular, is that they always started out as a regular girl. The girl who was strong, courageous and capable of great things but it hadn’t been realized or appreciated yet. She would usually be having a normal day and something spectacular would happen that would change her life forever.
So in a funny way, I always thought of my life as a Disney movie. Those stories made me feel like talking animals and songs would break out as I walked down the street (even if only in my head.)
As an adult, I look back at the stories, and while the enchantment has worn off, the idea of expecting extraordinary things to happen on a regular day still resides in the deepest part of my imagination….tucked alllll the way down.
Regular girls just living a regular life can have a fairytale even when the beginning seems grim. Our fairytales all look different but it never fails that when you’re busy going about your everyday activities and living your life, things can change in the most unexpected ways. A trip to Starbucks can bring the most pleasant surprise! I have found that trying to map things out and find the most secure path to take seldom leads to a noteworthy destination.
The most entertaining parts of Disney Princess movies usually aren’t the beautiful cinematic weddings at the end but the unfolding of a regular girl’s journey to greatness!
